Tsunami tsealots
2005-01-05 at 4:59 p.m.

Sometimes, jerks make me physically ill. Especially when I'm not the one being accosted.

There are many sites out there that make me feel sick to my stomach. I don't mind people having opinions, but... I mind when people get angry, when they damn people to hell, when they are cruel and vicious and ignorant in what they are using to back up their arguments.

No, this isn't all about gay people. Yes, that is some of it. I don't care what you think. There's more to it.

When I see people made fun of and put down for things outside their control, for what they believe, or worse, threatened for those things... I feel like I should stand up and defend them.

Maybe that's just a mothering instinct in me.

But I really, REALLY wish people would stop using God's name to defend THEIR pet hate, their problems, their issues.

Case in point (actually, a few cases): God Hates Fags. Run by Fred Phelps, I do believe.

This is what they say about the tsunami. There is more on the site under their FAQs.

The tsunami was an adumbration of the wrath of God, a harbinger of things to come: that Great Day of Judgment. Amos 3:6 "Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?" That word translated "evil" there is means distress, misery, injury, calamity. The answer, of course, to the rhetorical question posed in this verse is a resounding "NO!" See also Romans 1:18 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" And you wonder if this is the wrath of God?

As far as God killing children in His wrath, have you ever heard of the great flood? God destroyed billions of people in His wrath, including billions of children. Have you ever heard of Sodom and Gomorrah? God destroyed all of them in His wrath, including children. Have you ever heard of the plagues of Egypt? God killed the firstborn child of every family in Egypt in His wrath. Have you ever heard of the Babylonian Captivity? God destroyed countless people in His wrath, including children. Have you ever heard of September 11, 2001? God destroyed thousands in His wrath, including children. Filthy fags and pedophiles have been going to Asia for many, many years to have sex with little children - and suddenly you're worried about children? Shame on you. It is God's prerogative to kill children to punish their evil, Godless, vile, filthy parents who were raising them for the devil anyway. He always has done that, and He always will. Deal with it.

Yeah.

There's another site they support. God Hates Sweden is one of a few chains of "Hate" sites; America and Canada are the other members at the moment.

In very large letters:

THANK GOD FOR 5,000 DEAD SWEDES!!!

WE PRAY FOR ALL 20,000 SWEDES IN THE TSUNAMI'S WAKE TO BE DECLARED DEAD!

Yes. You pray for your death and destruction. You know what the terrorists are saying about the tsunami? The people we're supposed to hate? The people we don't support, and are trying to knock out of power?

They're saying that this was Allah's punishment. This was their god's work. This was a punishment, and a blessing because now they know what they have done wrong, and they will make their spiritual reparations over it.

Whatever.

People died. It's a tragedy. There's no rejoicing to be found in death. Not even for Christians. Nobody was happy even when Jesus died.

Y'know when we're happy? When people are given life.

I have Algebra homework! Woopie! It's actually not that hard. But I need to get it done.

And then I'm going to stuff binders full of paper and dividers and stuff, because while school may not be my favorite thing all the time, I am insanely pleased by the feeling of setting up my school supplies.

No, really.

Weird.
